Chain of Survival

We are sure if you are reading this that you must know that we are all First Aid instructors, and are really keen to promote life-saving skills to everyone and anyone!

When someone has a cardiac arrest, their survival rate drops by 6-10% EACH minute that someone does not react or respond. The chain of survival is 4 main actions that anyone can take to save someone's life. If the chain is broken or has a link missing the odds of survival will be reduced.

  1. Early Recognition and call for help - learn and understand the signs/symptoms of someone at risk of cardiac arrest
  2. Buy time - start CPR to buy time until medical help arrives
  3. Early Defibrillation - Defibrillators give an electric shock to reorganise the rhythm of the heart
  4. Restore quality of life - Post Resuscitation Care  provided by paramedics or at the hospital
